Long before artists in the field of art formed permanent colla\u00adbo\u00adra\u00adtive duos or collec\u00adtives, the twentieth and twenty-first centuries in parti\u00adcular saw the emergence of colla\u00adbo\u00adra\u00adtive works of art from a wide variety of personal, artistic, and histo\u00adrical backgrounds. The exhibi\u00adtion <em>Friendships. Colla\u00adbo\u00adra\u00adtive Works from Dada to Now<\/em> explores the condi\u00adtions and temporal constel\u00adla\u00adtions that led acquain\u00adtances, close confi\u00addants, friends, lovers, or even compe\u00adti\u00adtors to devote themselves to a colla\u00adbo\u00adra\u00adtive work process for a limited period of&nbsp;time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Especially in retro\u00adspect, it is easy to idealize the collegial together\u00adness and the genesis of the artwork. Not only enjoyable colla\u00adbo\u00adra\u00adtion, but also (compe\u00adti\u00adtive) disputes among friends brought to light the most progres\u00adsive ideas and new artistic methods. The fighting out of disputes, as well as complex amorous relati\u00adons\u00adhips, also accom\u00adpa\u00adnied the process that led to perhaps the most important discovery of the Surrea\u00adlists, the <em>cadavres exquis<\/em>. With shared author\u00adship, they signi\u00adfi\u00adcantly changed the paradigm of genuine artistic expres\u00adsion through play charac\u00adte\u00adrized by chance and impro\u00advi\u00adsa\u00adtion. The Dada artists invented colla\u00adbo\u00adra\u00adtive action art, which was further developed by the Fluxus artists with new themes. Driven by a common socio-political commit\u00adment, a group of artists realized the <em>Grand Tableau Antifa\u00adsciste Collectif<\/em> in 1960 out of solida\u00adrity with an Algerian freedom fighter and to protest against colonia\u00adlism and torture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Developed in coope\u00adra\u00adtion with the Mucem \u2013 Museum of European and Mediter\u00adra\u00adnean Civili\u00adsa\u00adtions in Marseille, where the exhibi\u00adtion will be on view through February 13, 2023, the trans\u00adna\u00adtional exhibi\u00adtion project features a spectrum of colla\u00adbo\u00adra\u00adtively created artworks and is itself, in a sense, the expres\u00adsion of a friendly colla\u00adbo\u00adra\u00adtion between the curator Blandine Chavanne and the artist Jean-Jacques Lebel as scholarly advisor. The countries of the two partner insti\u00adtu\u00adtions, France and Germany, also share close ties of friendship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Accom\u00adpanying the exhibi\u00adtion, a richly illus\u00adtrated book has been published by Hatje Cantz Verlag (ed.
