class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p>Whether in life or in art, somewhere we\u2019re always running into bounda\u00adries. At times they seem far away; at others, very close. Often we meet with external limita\u00adtions, yet frequently, these limita\u00adtions are within us. \u201cIn the Cage of Freedom\u201d explores this permanent dialectic between impri\u00adson\u00adment and freedom, which the author and philo\u00adso\u00adpher Jean-Jacques Rousseau empha\u00adsized with these words: \u201cMan is born free, and every\u00adwhere he is in chains.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more mehr-->\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s about the fragility of freedom\u2014individual, political, sexual, and last, but not least, artistic freedom. And how numerous forces are always threa\u00adtening it. Is there something beyond power\u00adless\u00adness? At any rate, this side of power, the \u201ctyranny of the real,\u201d as Peter Sloter\u00addijk calls it, is omnipre\u00adsent. The works of art in this show don\u2019t illus\u00adtrate all of this, but they realize it both formally as well as in terms of content, in the most diverse, and occasio\u00adnally surpri\u00adsing ways. They testify to the power of images, while simul\u00adta\u00adne\u00adously reflec\u00adting upon the notion that even art is ultimately just another \u201ccage of freedom.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If nothing else, this exhibi\u00adtion is also about new works and perspec\u00adtives from the Kunst\u00admu\u00adseum Wolfsburg\u2019s collec\u00adtion. Joining ten selected artists from the collec\u00adtion from 1994 to 2014 are ten new and remar\u00adkable additions from 2015 onward: acqui\u00adsi\u00adtions, long-term loans, and gifts from collec\u00adtors and artists.
