Aïcha Khorchid
The sea is not blue
Infos
The imagery of Pakistani-born artist Aïcha Khorchid resembles a journey through her life, visualizing her search for belonging, identity, and ultimately herself.
Painted on large wooden panels, the works skillfully engage with the materiality of their support and the varying opacity of the paint application. Through a powerful visual language, they explore experiences and impressions from Aïcha Khorchid’s post-migrant life in Normandy and Paris. Her almost life-size figures, presented frontally, meet the viewer’s gaze and convey a strong emotional intensity. Surrounded by an often cool color palette, they suggest pain and loss. Aïcha Khorchid. The Sea Is Not Blue is the artist’s first institutional solo exhibition.
Subsequently, the Kunsthalle Augsburg in the Glass Palace will present the exhibition What Remains – The World of Aïcha Khorchid from May 13 to October 17, 2027. This presentation marks the awarding of the “Zeitsicht Art Award,” with which the Art Collections and Museums of Augsburg honor Aïcha Khorchid’s outstanding artistic work.
