Aïcha Khorchid
The sea is not blue
Infos
The imagery of Pakistani-born artist Aïcha Khorchid resembles a journey through her life and visualizes her search for security, identity, and ultimately herself.
In addition to the sensual and metaphorical works painted on large wooden panels, which skillfully play with the materiality of their medium and the varying opacity of the paint application, the exhibition uses powerful imagery to address experiences and impressions from Aïcha Khorchid’s post-migrant life in Normandy and Paris. Her almost life-size figures, presented frontally, seek the viewer’s gaze and convey great emotional power. Surrounded by an often cool color palette, they hint at pain and loss. Aïcha Khorchid. The Sea Is Not Blue is the artist’s first institutional solo exhibition.
